PALM BEACH — President Donald Trump arrives later today to spend Easter weekend at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Trump usually spends his South Florida Sundays at his nearby Trump International Golf Club in unincorporated West Palm Beach. But on Easter last year, the president and first lady Melania Trump attended a church service at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea.

Rep. Lois Frankel endorses Lauren Baer in Dem congressional primary

Lauren Baer has picked up the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, D-West Palm Beach, in her bid for the Democratic nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, R-Palm City, in a Palm Beach-Treasure Coast congressional district.

Baer, a former Obama administration foreign policy adviser, is running against U.S. Navy veteran and attorney Pam Keith in the District 18 Democratic primary.

“Lauren was raised in FL-18 and understands firsthand the challenges facing the district and our country,” said Frankel. “Her passion, experience, and deep roots in our community set her apart and will make her a great Representative for the district. From day one, Lauren will work hard every day to find meaningful solutions. I am proud to stand with Lauren and look forward to serving together in Congress”

Why Donald Trump won’t be at Mar-a-Lago this weekend…

From November to April, President Donald Trump loves to spend the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach.

He’s made 14 visits to Palm Beach since taking office in January 2017.

But barring a major surprise — something on the order of, say, agreeing to meet with North Korean “Rocket Man” Kim Jong-un — the president won’t be in town this weekend.

Trump is scheduled to travel, however. On Saturday, he’ll be near Pittsburgh for a campaign rally for his 2020 re-election bid — and to try to stave off a potentially embarrassing defeat for the GOP in a special congressional election.

In a western Pennsylvania district that Trump carried by 20 points in 2016, polls show that Republican Rick Saccone is struggling against Democrat Conor Lamb as Tuesday’s election approaches. A similar Trump rally the weekend before a special Alabama Senate election failed to deliver the deep-red state for accused child molester Roy Moore.
