The bill for a two-night stay at Mar-a-Lago in March.

Taxpayers were billed $1,092 so a government official of redacted identity could stay two nights at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in March while the president was spending a weekend in Palm Beach, a transparency advocacy group revealed after getting the information via a Freedom Of Information Act request.

The head of a group called Property of the People argues the $546-a-night payment to a Trump-owned business runs afoul of the domestic emoluments clause in the U.S. Constitution.

But an attorney who helped Trump set up a trust to run his business empire has put forward a different argument.
