Fire fight: Unions already taking sides in Republican governor primary

Florida Agriculture Commissioner and Republican candidate for governor Adam Putnam, who will attend tonight’s Palm Beach County GOP Lobsterfest, was in Palm Springs this morning to collect the endorsement of the 2,500-member Professional Firefighters/Paramedics of Palm Beach County.

State Sen. Jack Latvala, who launched his own GOP gubernatorial candidacy at a fire station in Hialeah on Wednesday, announced endorsements today from the Miami Association of Firefighters, I.A.F.F. Local 587 and the Orlando Professional Firefighters Local 1365.

Those unions aren’t waiting for at least two more Republican candidates who could enter the governor’s race. U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Palm Coast, will join Putnam at Lobsterfest tonight in West Boca. House Speaker Richard Corcoran, R-Land-O’Lakes, is also considering a run.
