PALM BEACH — Reports are emerging this week that President Donald Trump met secretly at Mar-a-Lago over Easter weekend with two former presidents of Colombia — Álvaro Uribe and Andrés Pastrana – to discuss their opposition to a peace plan between the current Colombian government and the left-wing guerilla group FARC.
Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, a FARC critic whose wife is of Colombian heritage, reportedly arranged the meeting. UPDATE: See what Rubio says about his role by clicking HERE.
Trump and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos are expected to meet in Washington next month. During a February stay at Mar-a-Lago, Trump spoke on the phone with Santos and “both Presidents discussed U.S. support for Colombia’s effort to create a just and lasting peace in its 52-year conflict with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC),” according to a White House readout of the call.
