Liberal U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Boca Raton, today applauded President Donald Trump‘s new sanctions against Iran for Iran’s recent ballistic missile test.
Deutch broke with most Democrats and opposed former President Barack Obama‘s Iran nuclear deal in 2015.
A vocal Trump critic, Deutch managed to commend today’s sanctions announcement without mentioning Trump.
“I welcome today’s announcement from the Treasury Department that sanctions will be imposed on 13 individuals and 12 companies following Iran’s latest ballistic missile launch on January 29,” Deutch said in a statement released by his office. “Acting Treasury Secretary Adam Szubin has been instrumental in ensuring Iran is held accountable for its continued and repeated violations of international law and I am pleased to see his good work carrying over in the new Administration. Even as we continue to vigorously enforce the nuclear agreement, we must make clear that Iran’s pursuit of dangerous missile and terrorist activities will not be tolerated. I hope the United Nations will follow today’s sanctions with swift international action.”
