COUNTDOWN TO INAUGURATION DAY (Jan. 20, 2017): 1 DAY

LATEST NEWS

Inaugural events officially started today. Festivities began with an all-day public concert at the Lincoln Memorial. President-elect Trump is expected to address the crowd in the afternoon between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery at about 3:30 p.m. The day is capped off with a fireworks show at the concert site.

Trump is expected to give a short, but “very personal,” inaugural speech on Friday. Trump tweeted a photo of himself working on the speech at Mar-a-Lago while he was in Palm Beach for the holidays.

Confirmation hearings continue today. Scheduled to appear before Senate committees are Steve Mnuchin (Secretary of the Treasury) and Rick Perry (Secretary of Energy). Two more Trump administration nominees, Nikki Haley (United Nations representative) and Scott Pruitt (Environmental Protection Agency administrator), have drawn distance between their views and some of the soon-to-be 45th president’s campaign promises.

The swearing-in ceremony on Friday will signal a change in leadership at the Trump Organization as well as the change in the commander-in-chief at the White House. Eric Trump, who will run the Trump empire with older brother Donald, Jr., predicts “business as usual.”
