Context: It’s the second day in a row the president-elect has used the word “clown” to describe Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Schumer has responded today by saying “this is not a time for calling names.” The vow to repeal Obamacare has been a top priority for the Republican-controlled Congress.
On Jackie Evancho:
Context: According to a fact check by The Associated Press, the album sales of the teenage singer have not risen much. Evancho announced she would sing the national anthem at Trump’s inauguration on Dec. 14. She sold 7,206 albums the week ending Dec. 15, 13,788 albums the next week, and 11,096 albums the following week (which ended Dec. 29). Some of the credit for the rise may have come from the announcement, though much could also be from her performance on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” on Dec. 19, and her releasing a holiday album in late October, with holiday albums generally selling well during the holidays.
On the media and Julian Assange:
Context: Trump has taken jabs at media coverage throughout his campaign, and has continued to do so since the election. Assange’s WikiLeaks organization has been under criminal investigation for its role in classified information leaks, and Trump was criticized for appearing to embrace Assange.
Context: Another favorite topic of Trump’s. It’s the third automaker this week he has gone after on Twitter. According to the AP, Trump has the location of Toyota’s new plant wrong. The company announced in April it would build the factory in the central part of the country. Yesterday, he tweeted out a thanks to Ford for scrapping a new plant in Mexico. Ford said Trump was not the main factor in its decision. He went after GM earlier this week, as well.
