COUNTDOWN TO INAUGURATION DAY (Jan. 20, 2017): 16 DAYS

LATEST NEWS

The 115th Congress convened, but it was President-elect Donald Trump’s Twitter feed that was the newsmaker.

A slew of Trump tweets about General Motors selling Chevy Cruze autos built south of the border, Ford decided to jettison a factory in Mexico, calling Obamacare “CRAZY”, the GOP Congress’ attempt to weaken ethics laws and prisoner releases from Gitmo dominated the news.

As for the new Congress, House Speaker Paul Ryan was re-elected to the post. Another notable Republican, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who bitterly debated trump during last year’s GOP presidential primaries, was sworn in for his second term in the Senate.

Former President Bill Clinton and former First lady Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump on Nov. 8, reportedly plan on attending the inauguration.

In a weird news twist, though, media outlets highlighted the president-elect’s New Year’s Eve remarks while standing next to a man who reportedly pleaded guilty to a felony count of possessing stolen property in 1989. A Palm Beach Daily News video from the evening shows a tuxedoed Trump standing next to American Academy of Hospitality Sciences CEO Joseph Cinque, whose New York-based organization gives “Star Diamond Awards” to hotels and resorts, including several Trump properties. Cinque, also known as “Joey No Socks,” reportedly pleaded guilty a felony in 1989.
