COUNTDOWN TO INAUGURATION DAY (Jan. 20, 2017): 59 DAYS

LATEST NEWS

  • Trump has tweeted that he is “seriously considering Dr. Ben Carson as the head of HUD.” Carson earlier said he would not be part of the Trump administration, but then said he would consider a role.
  • President-elect Trump could arrive in Palm Beach today to spend the Thanksgiving holiday at Mar-a-Lago. Trump spent Monday in Manhattan meeting with prospective Cabinet members.
  • What to expect in the first 100 days of a Trump administration? The president-elect tweeted a video setting out his priorities.
  • One campaign promise, “locking up” Hillary Clinton, has been dropped. Trump spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway said Tuesday the Trump administration will not pursue an investigation of Clinton.
  • Another reversal: An on-and-off meeting with the New York Times is back on. Trump’s team said the meeting was canceled because the Times changed the rules of the meeting, which the Times denied. The meeting is reportedly back on.
  • The front runner for the top Pentagon job, retired Marine Corps Gen. James “Mad Dog” Mattis, may need a congressional waiver. Why? A decades-old rule bars service members from entering civilian positions within seven years of leaving the military.
