Democrat Patrick Murphy was endorsed today by the Communications Workers of America — building on his already sizable support from labor organizations in his campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio.
Murphy and the union, representing 12,000 Florida workers, announced the endorsement at the CWA’s West Palm Beach office.
“Here in West Palm Beach, we know how hard Patrick works for our families,” said CWA Local 3112 President Johnny Hernandez . “He shows up and fights for our workers and we can count on him to make growing our economy his top priority. Patrick has our full support in this campaign and we look forward to standing with him as Florida’s next Senator.”
Murphy, a two-term congressman from Jupiter, is trailing Rubio in most polls but continues to draw help from national Democrats, along with TV advertising.
Murphy told union officials, “Together, we will put Florida’s middle class families first, raise the minimum wage, and protect Social Security and Medicare for our seniors.
“CWA members and Florida families show up and work hard and I look forward to working hard alongside them as Florida’s next senator,” he added.
