Self-financing Democratic congressional candidate Randy Perkins is spending big as the Aug. 30 primary approaches.
Perkins spent $1.4 million from July 1 to Aug. 10, including nearly $1 million on TV ads, according to a Federal Election Commission report filed Thursday. Perkins’ main rival in the Palm Beach-Treasure Coast District 18 primary, attorney Jonathan Chane, spent $190,038 over the same period.
Perkins’ spending nearly equals the $1.6 million spent by all six GOP candidates in District 18 between July 1 and Aug. 10.
He has spent about $3 million overall on his candidacy since entering the race last November. Chane’s overall expenditures total $531,061. A third Democrat, John (Juan) Xuna, is running a low-budget campaign and the FEC did not have a report of his spending from July 1 to Aug. 10.
Perkins reported that he had given or loaned more than $3 million of his personal fortune to his campaign through Aug. 10. He put in another $750,000 last week, according to a separate FEC report.
