Scott spending day at ground zero in war on Zika virus — Miami-Dade

Gov. Rick Scott is spending much of Thursday at ground zero in the state’s war on Zika virus mosquitoes — Miami-Dade County.

Scott started the day touring Wynwood, the neighborhood where officials are focusing on a one-square-mile area as the source for at least 13 of the 15 cases of locally-transmitted Zika virus. He also plans to meet with U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Miami, and visit the county’s health department offices while in the area.

Scott’s been touring the state, holding Zika preparedness briefings — from South Florida to just this week, the Florida Panhandle. He also seems intent on trying to tamp-down fear of the mosquito-borne illness and blunt any threat it poses to the state’s top industry — tourism.
