49-hour protest at Rubio’s office over guns continues

Demonstrators gather at U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s Orlando office.

Protesters at the Orlando office of U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio were closing out the first day of a demonstration slated to span 49 hours, in memory of the victims of last month’s massacre at the nightclub Pulse.

Demonstrators representing Equality Florida and other groups are calling on Rubio to support stricter gun legislation in the U.S. Senate. Rubio last week was endorsed by the National Rifle Association in his bid for re-election and has steadily opposed tougher gun laws.

Rubio’s downtown office building is set to close to the public at 7 p.m., and it’s unclear what will happen to demonstrators at that point.
